BS EN ISO 14001:2026 has launched: Marking a decade of evolution in environmental management
We are pleased to announce that BS EN ISO 14001:2026 has officially been published, introducing an updated framework for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) that reflects today’s global sustainability challenges.
A decade after the 2015 edition, this revision represents an important evolution—helping organizations strengthen environmental performance, improve resilience, and align with increasing stakeholder expectations.
What’s new in ISO 14001:2026?
The updated standard builds on the existing structure while introducing key enhancements:
- Stronger focus on global environmental priorities
Including climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable resource use - Enhanced life cycle perspective
Encouraging organizations to assess environmental impacts across the entire value chain - Greater emphasis on leadership and governance
Reinforcing accountability and active involvement of top management - New focus on change management
Ensuring organizations effectively plan and control changes impacting the EMS - Improved clarity and alignment
Better structure and compatibility with other ISO management system standards
Transition period
Organizations currently certified to ISO 14001:2015 will have a transition period of up to 3 years (until approximately 2029) to migrate to the new version.
